(Shutterstock) LAKE COUNTY, IL Authorities in Lake County are urging parents to keep a close eye on their children s online activity following the arrest of a sexual predator accused of grooming children. The tips and advice from police comes as more people, including children, are interacting online amid the pandemic and the Lake County Sheriff s Office is seeing an uptick in reports from concerned parents.
LEESBURG Lake County Sheriff s Office Sgt. Fred Jones, public information officer and 23-year employee of the agency, received two awards over the last two months each recognizing his dedicated work to building community relationships as a law enforcement officer. Jones won the 2021 Public Service award from Men of Distinction s Leesburg Black Heritage and the Community Engagement Award from Lake-Sumter. He said receiving these awards meant a lot to him as a former student of Lake-Sumter and a Black man in law enforcement. This is more than just taking the bad guys to jail, he said of his work, and the message he tries to pass on to new deputies and academy students. This is about building a relationship with the community.
