Today is november 11th, 2019, which marks the 100th anniversary of veterans day in america. Originally known as armsist day, this is a day when we recognize the service of all u. S. Military veterans. Were delighted to mark this important day with a special event designed to salute americas veterans. Im especially pleased that our guest this evening include a fellow north carolinian who is the nations secretary of veteran affairs, the honorable robert wilky. The society of the cincinnati was our countrys first veterans group. Its particularly fitting that the secretary will be providing remarks. Youll hear a little more about that in just a moment. Were gathered here tonight to listen to a distinguished panel of noted historians who will be discussing the experience of American Veterans since the revolutionary generation more than 240 years ago. A cheque for $1,000 towards supporting the Legion and it sprograms
The presentation was made to Espanola Royal Canadian Legion President Branch #39 President Gary McPherson by Canadian Tire’s Sharon Goudreau.

The Espanola Royal Canadian Legion Branch #39 has received local and national funding to help support veterans and maintain the branch.
Legion President Gary McPherson accepted a $1,000 cheque from Canadian Tire’s Sharon Goudreau.
The branch also received just over $10,000 in financial aid as part of a federal program.
McPherson says the support on both levels is much needed and much appreciated by veterans and Legion members. ....

Federal support dollars reach hundreds of Legion Branches
OTTAWA, Dec. 21, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) Over half of The Royal Canadian Legion’s 1380 Branches received close to half the support dollars available for transfer from a federal aid package today.
In total, just over $7.2 million dollars distributed by the Legion’s National Headquarters went to 701 Branches who recently applied for financial assistance provided through Veterans Affairs Canada. More funds will be disbursed in the coming weeks. Many locations have been struggling to keep up with operational costs in the aftermath of closures and cancelled events.
“I’m literally ecstatic to know that our Branches have now received desperately needed help,” says Dominion President Thomas D. Irvine. “It’s a relief to know they will be able to continue with their amazing work, without the burden of financial stress looming in the background,” he says. ....
