This little chap made a beeline for the entries lined up along the school fence.
Sunflowers of every shape and size were brought to Leigh School on Sunday, January 31, when judging of the town’s annual sunflower competition took place in the playground.
Specimens were diverse, ranging from more than three metres high to just a few centimetres across, and from single blooms to multi-headed sprays (though a late attempt to enter a dandelion in the Smallest Bloom category was disallowed). Winning growers were presented with wine, merchandise and gift vouchers from local businesses, including Leigh Bar, Leigh Central, Leigh Eats, Leigh General Store, Leigh Motors, Leigh Sawmill Cafe, Goat Island Dive & Snorkel, Goat Island Marine Discovery Centre, Marie-Dominique Lennan, The Knitting Truck and Ti Point Reptile Park, as well as McGregor’s Seeds.

Hamilton indie-folk band Looking For Alaska released their new album 'Light and Shadow' this November, and to celebrate are playing a bunch of sick as shows around New Zealand over summer!
The tour kicks off with 3 rowdy, full band shows in November, followed by a full tour of more intimate venues around the country through January and February.
It's been 4 years since LFA's debut album was released, and in that time they've been busy touring NZ, Australia and Europe, and writing and developing the exciting new songs that feature on 'Light and Shadow.' The album has a much more mature, darker sound than anything you've heard from LFA before, reflecting the growth and maturity in the relationship between core members Amy Maynard and Aaron Gott.

An intimate soulful performer, an acoustic guitar sensation, winner of three New Zealand Music Awards Paul Ubana Jones was born in London to a Yorkshire mother and a Nigerian father.
Paul was playing the guitar by the age of eleven. Four decades as a professional decades and nine albums later he continues to perform throughout New Zealand, Australia Europe and the USA.
Paul has shared the stage and toured with the best: BB King, Bob Dylan, Taj Mahal, Keb Mo, Crowded House, Tuck and Patti… He has delighted festival audiences at the Dublin Blues Festival, Byron bay Blues festival, Vancouver Island Folk Festival, Blues at Bridgetown and many others in Europe.

Ariathea is original tribal funk soul or 'music for your mind, booty and spirit'. Singer Georgia Duder-Wood is joined by bassist Mat Fieldes, recently returned from a stellar international career based in New York and American percussionists Doug Brush, who has studied and performed with masters on five continents, and Eric Renick, principal percussionist with the Auckland Philharmonic and member of the Antipodes Percussion Project. With additional tracks by award winning producers The Sound Room, and Radio Base fm DJ Anirvan Deva (anirvandeva.wordpress.com), a night of hi-vibes and golden grooves is guaranteed.
