Former Mayor Bill DeBlasio will have to cough up a record $475,000 fine for using NYPD officers as security during his failed bid for the White House in 2019. Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino pointed out that DeBlasio’s mistake was failing to submit records of and pay for the work.
Many of Keechant Sewell’s supporters claim Mayor Eric Adams never really let her run the NYPD without City Hall’s approval first. Those supporters include former Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, who saw her work first-hand when Sewell was promoted to county chief of detectives.
“It’s not very clear as to who is running the department," former NYPD Commissioner BIll Bratton said. "You can’t have cops looking up, down and sideways trying to figure out who to report to.”
