ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday reported 110 more deaths from COVID-19 as the third wave of coronavirus continues to take lives despite government efforts to contain the virus. This was the third day at a stretch when over 100 deaths have been reported, before the numbers remained equally alarming with high infection rate and only 1.4 million people vaccinated across the country. According to the Health Ministry data, most deaths were reported in the northeastern Punjab and northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Punjab reported 2,732 coronavirus cases and 62 deaths during the last 24 hours, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa s 1,129 positive cases and 35 deaths, Sindh during this period had 653 cases, 8 deaths, while Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan have collectively reported 768 coronavirus cases and 4 deaths during the last 24 hours. PARIS: Deadly small particle pollution in dozens of nations exceeded World Health Organisation recommendations last year despite Covid lockdowns, according to a report released on Tuesday.
The partial or complete shutdown of transport and industry for months at a time in 2020 reduced average levels of so-called PM2.5 pollution across the world, including in major cities, the IQAir quality report found.
Concentrations of the life-shortening particles cast off by traffic pollution and burning fossil fuels dropped 11 percent in Beijing, 13 percent in Chicago, 15 percent in New Delhi, 16 percent in London, and 16 percent in Seoul. At least 60 percent of India’s cities were more breathable last year than in 2019, and all of them had cleaner air than in 2018. ....

As Nigeria commenced its vaccination against the lethal coronavirus infection on Friday, Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has said he won’t receive the vaccine even as his colleagues are expected to receive shots of the AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccines in the coming days.
Bello made this known while featuring on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme.
He also said there was nothing medically wrong with him and he won’t allow the people of the state to be used as “guinea pigs”.
Nigeria had on Tuesday received about four million doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine shipped into the country through the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja. ....
