Child finds Second World War shell on Kilve beach | Somerset County Gazette

Kilve beach was cleared of visitors and a cordon set up after the find yesterday afternoon (Wednesday).
The object turned out to be ordnance that was probably from a Second World War tank firing range in nearby fields.
The child had carried it off the beach and placed it on a section of grass next to the river.

A coastguard spokesperson said: It did not take us long to confirm that the item was indeed ex-World War 2 ordnance, probably from the wartime tank firing range that used to be in the fields between Kilve and Lilstock.
Photos were taken of the item and forwarded to the Royal Navy Fleet Diving Unit, who often deal with found ordnance on our coastline. ....

A DINOSAUR footprint discovered on the Yorkshire coast has been described as a real Jurassic giant.
Scientists say the discovery, the largest ever in the northern county, could have been left behind by a 30ft meat-eater, possibly a megalosaurus.
