HOUSTON – Shipments of coronavirus vaccine that dozens of providers across Texas were expecting to arrive Monday has been delayed by a day, and some of those providers are in the Houston area.
According to the Department of State Health Services, officials got word Monday that federal shipments of the vaccine that were ordered Friday would be delayed until Tuesday.
The shipments were destined to 55 of the 263 designated providers across the state. Six of them are in the Houston area.

Finding the new COVID-19 vaccine has posed a real challenge for some Houstonians. If you're feeling discouraged, take heart. Just after Minute Maid Park and NRG Parkserved as mass vaccinations hubs this past week, the state of Texas is now rolling out additional vaccination hubs for the Houston area.

Crowded Minute Maid Vaccine Clinic Gets Shots To Thousands

The Houston Health Department’s mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Minute Maid Park on Saturday was a success in that more than 6,000 area residents got their first dose of the potentially life-saving medicine. But logistical hiccups and a lack of on-site vetting allowed some Houstonians to skip the line and receive a shot without an appointment, and many residents who went through the correct process to make an appointment were sent away without getting a needle in the arm.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner announced on Thursday that the city health department would once again administer coronavirus vaccines at Minute Maid on Saturday for folks who had already secured an appointment, and said he hoped to open up additional Saturday vaccine appointments if the city got enough additional doses.

New vaccines are on the horizon — but is it too late to blunt the pandemic’s winter surge? Might Houston fare better than the rest of Texas? And why could a traditional-method vaccine be better for kids?
To answer these questions, we once again check in with vaccine researcher Peter Hotez, one of the country’s best explainers of COVID-19 science. He’s a professor and dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, and he co-directs the Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Vaccine Development, where his lab team is developing COVID-19 vaccines.
