"The first Santa Cruz city landmarks list was compiled in 1950 by the Chamber of Commerce, citing 20 buildings that had promotional appeal in drawing tourists to Santa Cruz County," writes columnist Ross Eric Gibson. "Elsewhere development pressures were sweeping away buildings, neighborhoods and farms to favor freeways, urban renewal, slum clearance and suburban sprawl."
Ventura County Elections Divisions confirmed that on Feb. 5 Vote by Mail ballots were mailed to all registered voters in Ventura County for the March 5 Presidential Primary Election.
"When was the last time you were concerned about crossing a river? It is so effortless today that we're seldom even aware that we crossed one, or in fact many rivers and creeks, under bridges, culverts, or pipeline streams," writes Ross Eric Gibson. "Several centuries back, one crossed a river at its ford, usually a shallow place, perhaps with a sandbar in the middle of the river."
Seats for Ventura County Supervisor Districts 1, 3 and 5 are on the March 5 ballot. Those interested in running have until 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, to file nomination
"On Armistice Day, Nov. 11, 1932, the Veterans Memorial Building was dedicated in Santa Cruz, south of the main post office," writes Ross Eric Gibson. "Retired banker A.A. Morey, 89, (one of five surviving local veterans of the Civil War), never thought his eyes would behold this wonderful day."
