Montgomery County D.A. reacts to Supreme Court overturning Cosby conviction

NORRISTOWN — Montgomery County’s top law enforcement officer reacted to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s decision overturning entertainer Bill Cosby’s sexual assault conviction saying he hopes it “will not dampen the reporting of sexual assaults by victims.”
The majority decision handed down by the state court justices on Wednesday, ordered the release of Cosby, 83, who has served more than two years of a three-to-10-year sentence, from the State Correctional Institution-Phoenix in Skippack Township.
Wednesday’s ruling prohibits Cosby from being retried on the charges.

“He was found guilty by a jury and now goes free on a procedural issue that is irrelevant to the facts of the crime,” county District Attorney Kevin R. Steele reacted after the high court’s decision became public. ....
