KUCHING, June 26 — Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) presidential council member See Chee How urges Sarawakians play a more active role in battling the Covid-19 pandemic as the movement control order (MCO) has failed to stop the spread of the virus.
“My hope is rested on all Sarawakians to play a bigger and more active role to battle the pandemic in Sarawak. We must go back to the very basic of staying home as much as possible, take all protective precautions when at work, and totally stop and avoid any congregation.

JKJAV studying need for third booster shot of Covid-19 vaccines, says Khairy

PETALING JAYA: The Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) will study data on how long vaccines can provide protection against the coronavirus as it prepares to procure more supplies for next year, says Khairy Jamaluddin.
The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister said the committee is gearing up to procure more vaccines as other developed countries are also mulling the need for a third booster shot especially with the emergence of the more resistant and transmissible Delta variant.
“We are seeing developed countries making preparations to procure vaccines next year so we are also studying the data to see if we need to start negotiating to get our supply,” he said on Saturday (June 26).

Ample stocks of vaccines expected in July, says Khairy

PETALING JAYA: Vaccination centres (PPVs) nationwide can expect to have ample stocks of vaccines in July to cope with the increased utilisation rate as more stocks are expected to arrive, says Khairy Jamaluddin.
"Our utilisation rate is now at 90% and there have been incidents where the PPVs have run out of stock and a fresh supply could only be delivered within two days," he said, adding that some states used up their vaccine supplies quicker than the arrival of new stocks.
The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister said although these instances were rare, there have been cases where vaccine recipients had to return home without their jabs because the PPV had run out of vaccines.

UCSF: Pan-Borneo roads through wildlife areas need proper study

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah's wildlife population would decline if new roads are built across key habitat areas without proper research, said University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) in recently-concluded research.
In the study, UCSF said that endangered species such as elephants, pangolins, clouded leopards, proboscis monkeys, slow loris and banteng were sighted along the samples of roads in areas with the presence of wildlife.
It added that endangered species in these areas would be at risk of being killed by traffic, saying that human lives may be at stake if large animals such as elephants and banteng are involved in the collisions - especially in the Kinabatangan and Kalabakan areas.

No 'third gender' for Malaysia, says minister

pic).
The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) said this was similar to how Malaysia does not acknowledge the LGBTQ (lesbians, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) community.
He said that the government's stand had to be emphasised when delivering his message during an online conference with members of the Third Gender Implications Research Committee.
"My principle is arguments need to be answered with arguments. So, a thorough argument needs to be put forward," he said in a Facebook post on Friday (June 25).
Zulkifli said the conference was organised by the Department of Islamic development Malaysia (Jakim).
In February, Zulkifli was reported to have said that Malaysia rejected the foreign policy of the United States' new administration that promoted LGBTQ rights.
