Powerhouse temporary agreement
The dispute between the City Council and the members of the Federated Engine drivers and Fireman's Union, employed in the council's powerhouse at Ultimo, was temporarily settled on Saturday morning. The trouble arose in the first place about the decision of the council to revert to a 48-hour week in the whole of the services on January 1. The engine drivers and firemen will continue a 44-hour week but with a reduction in the week's pay.
Bridge at The Spit
"The question of the Spit Bridge will be dealt with at a conference of all the local authorities interested on January 11, at Manly. The plan brought before the Manly Council by Alderman Kemp suggests a structure of massive dignity and of broad facilities. It provides for two sets of tramlines, two roadways, and two footpaths, with an opening in the centre of the bridge for the passage of vessels. A loan of £150,000, repayable in 15 years, is proposed for the work."
