Bitter divisions over the creation of a new super authority covering South Warwickshire have been laid bare at Stratford District Council, though the idea has moved a step closer to reality.

During last week s Full Council meeting the authority agreed to the principle of working towards a merger with Warwick District Council, with 34 councillors in favour and one against, but that doesn’t quite tell the whole story.
Although the result of the vote was convincing, some conservative members openly criticised the party leadership for the way the process had been conducted so far. ....

Planning application submitted for new Redditch homes


A PLAN has been lodged to build 236 new homes on land in Mappleborough Green, Redditch.
The proposed site is located on the eastern side of Redditch, to the east of Far Moor Lane and west of the A435 Birmingham Road, crossing two council borders.
Developers at Morris Homes have now submitted a planning application to Redditch Borough Council.
Of the 236 homes, 29 plan to be built will be within the Stratford District border, and 207 within the Borough of Redditch.
Within Redditch, 30 per cent of the homes will be delivered as affordable housing, according to developers.
The site would be accessed by two primary vehicular accesses onto Far Moor Lane, as well as minor access for the houses fronting the road. ....

Former Stratford District Council leader Les Topham dies


FORMER Stratford-on-Avon District Council leader Les Topham who ran his own successful garden centre in Mappleborough Green has died.
He had served the residents of Sambourne as a district councillor from 1996 to 2010 and was Chairman of the District Council between 2001 and 2002.
During his time on the council he also served on a number of committees before becoming deputy leader in 2004. Mr Topham took over the leadership in 2005, following the resignation of Chris Saint and helped drive the improvements across the council.
Born in Birmingham, he spent most of his career at British Leyland, before running the Les Topham Garden Centre in Mappleborough Green near Studley. ....

Plan for 265 new Redditch homes


PLANS have been drafted to build a total of 265 new homes on land in Mappleborough Green, Redditch.
The site is located on the eastern side of Redditch, to the east of Far Moor Lane and west of the A435 Birmingham Road.
Developers Morris Homes have yet to submit a planning application, but say they are working closely with Redditch Borough Council and Stratford-on-Avon District Council.
The site crosses the administrative borders of the two councils and includes undeveloped land on the southern side of the site and an area of New Town era woodland planting centrally and towards the northern end of the site. ....
