About Last Night: Senators get revenge on Habs with 6-3 win

Article content
A promising week ended with an emphatic thud Saturday night at the Bell Centre, where the Canadiens lost 6-3 to the Ottawa Senators.
Following a listless effort on Thursday that drew criticism from coach D.J. Smith, the young Senators lineup responded to the 4-1 loss with a physical, more aggressive tone, set 42 seconds into the contest when Brady Tkachuk opening scoring on the powerplay. Like a younger Corey Perry, Tkachuk has a fondness for parking himself in front of opposing goalies, and in this instance, spun around and shot the puck just out of goalie Carey Price’s reach.

About Last Night: Mistake after mistake hurt the Canadiens against the Jets

Mistakes were made. They cost the Montreal Canadiens Thursday night.
It didn’t matter if the Canadiens once again found success on their power play. It didn’t matter if the Canadiens negated both of Winnipeg’s power play opportunities. The Canadiens outshot the Jets 36-27. Jonathan Drouin put together a solid effort and got an assist on the game-tying goal (it was initially believed that he scored before the NHL gave it to Corey Perry).

Montreal still has yet to win in the Dominique Ducharme era. But it seems the Canadiens are slowly improving on the fly.
The Canadiens fired over 40 shots on net last night against the Jets in a 2-1 overtime loss last night. The loss extends Montreal’s winless streak to five, but it came after their best effort in a while.

About Last Night: These Canadiens are not the Canadiens you've come to expect

Article content
What a difference one month makes, huh?
At this time last month, the Montreal Canadiens were scoring goals (nearly) at will five games in. The fewest they had scored in a game was three.

Montreal’s playing style looked electric. They showed off their speed, they played with aggression, and it looked as if this roster might be a formidable opponent in the North Division, and beyond.
Fine, the jury might still have been out on how they fared against the rest of the league but they at least looked promising.
