Messenger Post Media The Wayne County Democratic Committee is backing a candidate for sheriff who is not a registered Democrat, although committee members say he backs many of their goals and ideals for the office. The committee voted last Saturday to designate Steve MacNeal, who serves as administrative sergeant at the Macedon Police Department, as its candidate for Wayne County sheriff. The office is held by Sheriff Barry Virts, although he has told the Times of Wayne County publication that he is not seeking reelection. MacNeal is a former Wayne County sheriff’s deputy who transferred to the Irondequoit Police Department before returning to Wayne County. ....
