Eight officers — correctional and police — have been indicted on charges stemming from the Atlantic County police custody death of 41-year-old Mario Terruso in 2019.
Police didn't want to wait around for a medical evaluation of Mario Terruso Jr. on a Sunday afternoon. They took him to jail, guards beat him, he died.
Five Hamilton Township Police Officers were also charged for their conduct in dropping the man off at jail instead of taking him to a hospital for treatment.
Mario Terruso 'never got the help he so desperately needed,' says Attorney General Matthew Platkin
A New Jersey grand jury also voted to indict six other officers in connection with the 2019 death of a 41-year-old man.
