CHATHAM COUNTY HAS MORE THAN 80- THOUSAND VACCINATIONS. THE PANDEMIC FORCED THE TOWN OF BLUFFTON TO CANCEL ONE OF IT'S WELL-KNOWN FESTIVALS... THE MAYFEST... FOR A SECOND YEAR IN A ROW. JESSICA BATTISTA REPORTS. SOT: JOANIE LACO- PRESIDENT OF THE ROTARY IN BLUFFTON "MAKES ME SICK TO SAY SO, BUT WE HAD TO CANCEL IT.." THE BLUFFTON MAYFEST - WHICH NORMALLY FEATURES DOZENS IF NOT HUNDREDS OF ARTISTS - WILL NOT HAPPEN IN 2021. SOT: JOY HERMAN- BLUFFTON ARTIST "PEOPLE COME HERE JUST FOR THIS FESTIVALS AND ACTIVITIES; WE DON'T HAVE TO HAVE DISNEYLAND...WE HAVE BLUFFTONLAND.." LOCAL ARTISTS SUCH AS JOY HERMAN SAYS IT'S A BIG FESTIVAL IN THE LOWCOUNTRY. "IT GETS OUR NAME OUT THERE, THE MORE PEOPLE THAT KNOW WE ARE HERE THE BETTER..." ...AND NOT HAVING THE MAYFEST...TAKES AWAY AN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE INCOME... "IT SAD, IT HARD TO PAINT AND DO YOUR CRAFT- WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE AS MANY PEOPLE TO SHOW YOUR CRAFT TOO." (BUTT SOTS) "WE ARE HERE TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY, NOT MAKE THEM SICK." STAND UP-AND USUALLY THE MAYFEST TAKE PLACE ON CALHOUN STREET- THIS STREET IS FILLED WITH BIG TENTS FULL OF VENDORS...BUT FOR THE 2ND YEAR OF THE ROW THE STREETS WILL LOOK LIKE THIS...EMPTY "LOSING THE MAYFEST WERE GONNA LOSE AN OPPORTUNITY TO MEET NEW CUSTOMERS AND GAIN A NEW CUSTOMER BASE SOME BUSINESSES IN DOWNTOWN BLUFFTON SAY THEY'LL BE IMPACTED...BUT I FOUND OUT IT WAS A DIFFERENT STORY AT SOME ART GALLERIES.
