Philippine National Police officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar on Sunday, March 14, 2021, said the chief of police of Calbayog City and nine others have been relieved from their posts. The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday relieved the chief of police of Calbayog City Police for command responsibility over two recent controversial incidents involving his personnel. In a statement, PNP officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar said Police Lieutenant Colonel Neil Montaño has been relieved from his post.

The chief of police of Calbayog City and nine other policemen were sacked from their posts over the alleged March 8 encounter that killed Mayor Ronaldo Aquino, and the alleged blunder committed by the local police intelligence chief whose letter to the local court for the names of lawyers representing people linked to communist rebels went viral in the social media.
