Chiapas Burrowing Snake, orange-bellied variant
Adelphicos nigrilatum Description: A beautiful Colubrid snake about 20 cm in length. I love to find a snake, as it means there are some still in existence that haven't been killed. This species of Adelphicos is native to the highlands of Chiapas and has characteristic black lines on the sides of the snake. The underside is orange and the upper scales have an iridescent shine in the light. This one was stuck in the street, sandy and thirsty. I took it to an empty lot full of vegetation. They like to get in the streets where the cement is warm and then can't get back up the curbs.
