Pueblo community theaters adapt, innovate to stay alive during COVID pandemic

But what happens when a worldwide pandemic pulls the curtains shut on that stage?
For Pueblo's two community theaters — The Impossible Players and Steel City Theatre Company — that dilemma has been a reality for the past year.
COVID restrictions in Pueblo County have caused both theater companies to cancel performances, seek innovation and adapt to continue providing homes for Pueblo's actors, directors and stage crews to showcase their talents.
Those in the theaters do it all for free, using their love of performing to soldier on during troubling times.
Steel City Theatre returned to the stage with its Thanksgiving show titled "Stuffed with Thanksgiving" in late January via a drive-in style performance.

An unfinished set for a show that's being rescheduled sits empty inside of Impossible Players, a community theater in Pueblo. The organization is just one example of how hard performing arts are being hit by the pandemic, but the state of Colorado wants to help with new grants dedicated specifically to arts and venues.

PUEBLO — Restaurants have takeout orders during the pandemic to keep themselves afloat, but “you can’t DoorDash a theater show,” according to one playhouse member.
Darin Stuart and Meg Versteeg are Board Members of Impossible Players, a long-established community theater in Pueblo. The playhouse’s employees are completely volunteering and any money the theater makes comes from ticket sales to shows.
