Pueblo community theaters adapt, innovate to stay alive during COVID pandemic

But what happens when a worldwide pandemic pulls the curtains shut on that stage?
For Pueblo s two community theaters The Impossible Players and Steel City Theatre Company that dilemma has been a reality for the past year.
COVID restrictions in Pueblo County have caused both theater companies to cancel performances, seek innovation and adapt to continue providing homes for Pueblo s actors, directors and stage crews to showcase their talents.
Those in the theaters do it all for free, using their love of performing to soldier on during troubling times.
Steel City Theatre returned to the stage with its Thanksgiving show titled Stuffed with Thanksgiving in late January via a drive-in style performance. ....

Citizen Support Services building opens in former Pueblo Judicial Building

Tim Hart, director of the Pueblo County Human Services Department, expressed excitement in the building s opening.
Having the two buildings across the street helps us with efficiencies in our operations, He said, noting that it allows for easier transfers of mail, faster meeting times and easier interactions for customers who may be interacting with the offices for the first time. The 10th Street building was formerly the county s judicial building, prior to the opening of the Dennis Maes Judicial Building at 501 Elizabeth St. in 2014. Now, it will house offices for food assistance, Medicaid, Adult Financial Aid, and adult programs and Child Support programs. COVID-19 vaccine in Pueblo: Parkview staff all offered vaccine

Parkview Medical Center has offered all of its employees a chance to get the COVID-19 vaccination.
In the past month, those offers were extended for the injection s second round the final leg toward increased immunity to a virus that has killed over 400,000 people in the United States.
Chief of Staff Dr. Thomas Herzog and registered nurses April Vijan and Julie Priest-Ibarra all received Pfizer s second booster shot for the vaccine. Their side effects were minimal but their encouragement to others is strong.
I really believe in the vaccine, I believe in the science, Herzog said. There are some mild side effects that a lot of people had I had hardly any side effects. ....

Pueblo's Sangre de Cristo Arts Center seeks to brush off pandemic

After a strong 2019 in which more than 130,000 people visited Pueblo s Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center, the center was off to another hot start in 2020.
Sangre de Cristo CEO Jim Richerson said 2020 started out “just great” for the nonprofit center as it seemed to be firing on all cylinders.
But then came the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Friday, March 13 we got the call from the county and the health department that basically said due to the (COVID-19) pandemic, we’re shutting down,” Richerson said.
“That first weekend was unbelievable how we had to man the phones, just canceling all kinds of things. We had two performances that weekend we had to cancel. We had a wedding. But there was nothing we could do. ....
