After a nearly 50-year career in education, Chesterfield County Public Schools Superintendent Mervin Daugherty is retiring. His last day will be June 30.
Chesterfield County Public Schools employees in Virginia are receiving a 4% salary increase as part of the school division's $913.7 million operating budget. The increase is $28.9 million higher than the FY24 budget, with $24.9 million of that allocated toward employee compensation. The budget also includes state-required increases for custodial services, special education transportation, reading specialists, and other services, as well as $3.5 million for maintaining service levels of staff such as bilingual liaisons, social workers, and human resources specialists. The overall financial plan stands at $997.8 million, which includes the operating budget, a $39.4 million grants fund, a $39.3 million federal food service fund, and $5.4 million from the Appomattox Regional Governor's School.
Brian McGill, an English teacher at Tomahawk Creek Middle School since 2020, has been selected as the 2024 Teacher of the Year and Middle School Teacher of the Year for Chesterfield County. Mr. McGill has taught in Chesterfield County Public Schools since 2008 and previously taught in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
