The first arriving firefighters saw fire coming from a first-floor rear apartment, he said. They brought a hose inside the building and knocked down the fire. The fire was confined to the apartment, but the rest of the building had smoke damage, he said. The Rhode Island State Fire Marshal's office is investigating the cause.
