Parents of baby shot to death grieve unbearable loss: ‘Snatched from us just like that’

Syracuse, N.Y. — The tinted windows of the 2003 Honda Accord were rolled down just enough for Desiree Seymore to see a pair of eyes and the barrel of a gun.
It pulled within a couple feet of the parked car that Seymore was sitting in with her baby, two girls and her cousin, the driver.
Seymore saw the man’s eyes dart, head swivel and the window roll down.
The man pushed the gun’s barrel out the window and started firing.

“I tried to save you, Dior,” Buckmon said again and again. “I tried to save you, baby.”
Later, Desiree Seymore held a picture of Dior Harris, her 11-month-old daughter. She rocked back and forth in her chair before standing up, jumping with the picture in her hands and screaming.
Family members and friends surrounded her, hugged her and tried to restrain her.
“We got you,” shouted several people in the crowd of about 50 people at Dior’s vigil Monday night.
The group gathered in front of 157 Lincoln Ave. to mourn Dior, who was shot and killed shortly before 7 p.m. in the 300 Block of Grant Avenue on Sunday. The vigil was held in the same place Buckmon had driven Dior, two of her own children and Seymore after their car was shot up at on Grant Avenue. Milteshia Seymore, Desiree Seymore’s sister, lives at the address.
