Having last week revealed the six winners of this year’s BOSS Young Executives awards, we asked each of them to nominate the advice that stuck. 1. Be grateful for the people around you Ellen MacDougal, chief operating officer of life insurance broker Steadfast Life, says the most important piece of advice came from her father. It was to recognise all the people around you who support you in some way.

Even if the trait isnât born out of necessity, thanks to the challenge of navigating a business through the coronavirus pandemic, it has certainly been highly sought after as leaders recognise the need to think beyond short-term profits and consider the health, safety and evolving demands of those around them. Save Share Mirinda OâGorman has degrees in law and business but it didnât take her long to realise that she wanted to pursue a career in business rather than law. In late 2011, OâGorman, who is this week named as one of the BOSS Young Executives for 2021, did an internship at the United Nations, working at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Mirinda OâGorman wants to take the skills she has learnt in health and apply them to aged care. Louie Douvis The job required sifting through documents describing the atrocities of war. âFor me it was a realisation that the world knew these crimes were happening at the time and didnât do much to intervene,â says OâGorman, now general manager of LanternPay, an online payments platform. âYet we were spending all this money after the fact.
