President Biden hopes to sign the bill into law next week providing it passes the lower chamber, where it is being introduced in a substantially amended form.

Moderate Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin struck a deal late on Friday with Senate leaders over emergency jobless benefits, breaking a nine-hour logjam that had stalled the party's $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill.

The Senate commenced a dreaded 'vote-a-thon' - a continuous series of votes on amendments - shortly before midnight, before finally passing the bill around midday EST Saturday.
