KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 15 — Malaysian rapper Namewee has returned home and said he will be surrendering himself to the police after completing his seven days quarantine.
In a Facebook post, Namewee, or his real name Wee Meng Chee, said he was taken by Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) police as soon as he passed immigration.
“As I was passing immigration, a red light flashed when I inserted my passport indicating I am a wanted person.

Malaysian creative and film industry players have petitioned for the removal of the chairman Zakaria Abdul Hamid and CEO Ahmad Idham bin Ahmad Nadzri from their positions at the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS).
The petition said that the creative and film industry feels "marginalised by Zakaria and Ahmad Idham, who should be thinking of ways to help the industry continue to work to benefit the economy and country. "We feel more depressed when the chairman and CEO of FINAS made statements indicating that we are not contributing to the country's economy on their social media posts which only displayed their shallow thoughts that they do not deserve to hold important positions," the petition added.

Seniman appeals to Govt to set SOPS for creative industry

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 5): The Malaysian Artistes Association (Seniman) has appealed to the Government to set standard operating procedures (SOPs) for creative industry practitioners during the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Its secretary-general Mohd Hafiz Mohd Nafiah said that most industry practitioners worked on a freelance or gig basis, and the enforcement of the MCO, which did not allow filming to be carried out, resulted in them having no income.
“Seniman appeals to the Government to issue guidelines or SOPs for us to continue filming for the sake of survival in this very challenging period. Producers are also bound by a contract with a television station with a deadline to complete a project.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 — Persatuan Seniman Malaysia (Seniman) has lodged a police report against a film titled
Babi, directed by Wee Meng Chee or Namewee, for allegedly having elements of racism that tarnished Malaysia’s image.
Seniman secretary-general Mohd Hafiz Mohd Nafiah said that based on the video clips that he watched, he personally felt that the film, which was screened abroad, contained elements of racism, despite claims that it was based on a true story.
