Heat Take Control in 2nd Half, Hornets Close Back-to-Back With Loss

A dominant third-quarter showing by the visiting Miami Heat ended the Charlotte Hornets’ chances of a back-to-back sweep, leading instead to a 121-111 home loss on Sunday night at Spectrum Center.
PJ Washington paced the hosts with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting, six rebounds and three steals in the loss. The second-year Kentucky product has now scored 20 points in five of his last nine outings after doing so just once in his previous 17 appearances since the All-Star Break.
Miami led by seven at the break and after a quick 5-0 Charlotte run to open the third, the visitors then responded with a 14-5 stretch to go up by double digits at the 7:37 mark. Defensive mistakes and foul trouble by the Hornets caused the Heat’s advantage to eventually balloon to 20 heading into the fourth. Charlotte never threatened the outcome again, coming up short in pulling off its first season series sweep of Miami since 2001-02. ....

Welcome back, Buzz Boys!
It didn’t take long for the Hornets to see what kind of impact the return of LaMelo Ball to the starting lineup and Malik Monk coming off the bench would have. Hornets Start Slow, Can't Complete Comeback Win in Boston

For the second straight night, the Charlotte Hornets came up just short of fully erasing a huge first-half deficit, instead falling to the Celtics, 120-111, on Wednesday night at TD Garden.
Devonte’ Graham notched his third consecutive 20-point game in the loss, finishing with 25 points on 5-of-12 shooting from three, five rebounds, seven assists and two blocks. This was also Graham’s second straight 25-point showing, marking the first time he’s accomplished this particular feat this season and fourth time overall in his career.
Trailing by 20 after the first quarter, the Hornets progressively regrouped over the following two frames and entered the fourth trailing just 88-80. Charlotte continued to chip away, eventually getting to within three with 7:23 remaining. An 11-2 Boston run though spanning the next four minutes of game action effectively closed the door on the comeback attempt. ....
