Joanna Millan, 81, were among the 300 Jewish orphans flown to the Lake District at the end of the Second World War, and among them was Rob Rinder's grandad Morris Malenicky
It was 5am when Rob Rinder touched down in Tel Aviv. The airport, usually bustling with life, was eerily quiet – “a ghost town”. He headed towards Sderot, a city by the Gazan border, just an hour away. “The massacre was so close to everyone in Israel – not just emotionally, but physically, too,” he says.
The TV judge recently returned from Israel where he met with first responders from the country's ambulance service, Magen David Adom.
Rob Rinder, 45, (pictured) was born into a Jewish family and received an MBE in 2021 - along with his mother Angela Cohen - in recognition of their services to Holocaust education.
The TV personality, 44, known as Judge Rinder, also lit a candle in remembrance of the six million Jews who were killed in the atrocity.
