Davidson County vaccine rate: How many people have been vaccinated?

Davidson County has administered more than 75,321 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, as of May 3, according to data from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
That s up 4 percent from the previous week s tally of 72,408 COVID-19 doses administered.
In Davidson County, 22 percent of people living in Davidson County were fully vaccinated as of May 3. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers someone fully vaccinated two weeks after they ve been given a single-dose shot (Johnson & Johnson) or a second shot (either Pfizer or Moderna).
North Carolina reported 974,319 total cases of coronavirus, an increase of 1 percent from the week before. ....

Davidson County downgraded to yellow on statewide COVID county alert system

Davidson County has been placed in the lowest level, code yellow, in the county alert system by the North Carolina Health and Human Services due to a significant decrease in the testing positivity rate and the number of new COVID-19 cases.
As of March 12, Davidson County had 117 new cases per 100,000 residents in the past 14 days and the positivity rate, which is the percentage of COVID-19 test out of all test given that came back positive, is 5.3 percent. The statewide positivity rate is 3.7 percent as of Friday.

Lexington library branch hopes card program brings comfort to isolated nursing home residents

Davidson County Library employee Emma Welch knows how the outbreak of COVID-19 has made her feel isolated at times and changed her life drastically.
But the changes in her life and routine, and her isolation is nothing she said when compared to residents in local nursing homes. After reading articles about the loneliness many nursing home residents feel during the pandemic because no visitors have been allowed inside to reduce the spread of the virus, Welch decided she wanted to do something to change that.
Welch, a library system support tech and young adult coordinator, sought input from co-worker Bethany Geiger. Together they created a card program that allows the public to either drop off a card they write a note inside, or use supplies at the main Lexington branch to make a card and write a note inside. All of the cards will be delivered to residents at Alston Brook nursing home and rehabilitation center in Lexington. ....

After two months of rolling out its COVID-19 vaccination program, Davidson County is starting to see some positive results and is getting some reinforcement later this month.
As of Feb. 9, Davidson County has a 12 percent positivity rate, which is the percentage of tests that came back positive in the past two weeks; it is a reduction from the 13.9 percent last week. The positivity rate on Jan. 16 was 17.8 percent.
There have been 1,216 new cases of COVID confirmed in Davidson County in the past 14 days, which is 725 cases per 100,000 residents. On Jan. 21, there were 2,117 new cases confirmed in a 14 day period, which was 1,263 cases per 100,000 residents. ....
