The Dispatch On the outside, Magalene s Boutique in downtown Lexington looks the same as it has for over a year, but a peek inside shows you something has definitely changed. The dark brunette running around the clothing and accessories store is the first big change. Samantha Sturgill Ricks, a 2011 Central Davidson High School graduate, purchased the store at the end of June and opened it Tue, July 13. The store now has an open feel to it with the clothing, jewelry and purse displays being pushed against the walls of the store. While the name, for now, remains Magalene s, it too, will change shortly. The mother of three will rename the store Gabrielle Chic after her oldest child. ....
Former Davidson County Commissioner Zak Crotts tells Carolina Journal he is exploring a possible run for Congress in the district. “It is something that I am thinking about, talking to people and seeing where things go. Of course, we have to see what the district looks like. I have always had a desire to serve others. I did so in the military and within the Republican party as well as an elected official in Davidson County. If I don’t run, I will do as I have in the past; work day and night to keep this seat in Republican hands.” ....
The Dispatch Davidson County Library employee Emma Welch knows how the outbreak of COVID-19 has made her feel isolated at times and changed her life drastically. But the changes in her life and routine, and her isolation is nothing she said when compared to residents in local nursing homes. After reading articles about the loneliness many nursing home residents feel during the pandemic because no visitors have been allowed inside to reduce the spread of the virus, Welch decided she wanted to do something to change that. Welch, a library system support tech and young adult coordinator, sought input from co-worker Bethany Geiger. Together they created a card program that allows the public to either drop off a card they write a note inside, or use supplies at the main Lexington branch to make a card and write a note inside. All of the cards will be delivered to residents at Alston Brook nursing home and rehabilitation center in Lexington. ....
