Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said she “refutes” claims that her chief of staff Liz Lloyd interfered in the investigation of Alex Salmond.
Using parliamentary privilege in the House of Commons, Conservative MP David Davis read out messages that he suggested showed a “concerted effort by senior members of the SNP to encourage complaints” against the former first minister.
According to Mr Davis, the messages disclosed by a whistleblower “demands serious investigation”, with one alleging the investigating officer in the case complained of interference by Ms Sturgeon’s chief of staff.

Nicola Sturgeon facing calls to resign amid evidence she repeatedly misled Parliament

Nicola Sturgeon is facing calls to resign after two witnesses in the Alex Salmond scandal corroborated his version of key events and provided damning evidence she repeatedly misled parliament. In a potentially devastating development for the First Minister, ahead of her appearance before a Holyrood inquiry on Wednesday morning, a pair of former special advisers contradicted her claims about two meetings in 2018. Ms Sturgeon has told parliament she only found out about the allegations when Mr Salmond visited her home on April 2, 2018 and but she refused to intervene. Last week she denied during First Minister's Questions the identity of one of the women was shared with Geoff Aberdein, Mr Salmond's chief of staff, "to the best of my knowledge". But Duncan Hamilton, a former SNP MP and junior counsel, said the name of a complainant was given to Mr Aberdein by a senior official shortly after Mr Salmond was informed of the government's investigation into sexual misconduct claims on March 7, 2018.

The First Minister is struggling to control her Scottish National Party (SNP) as its separate Westminster entity "dissents", Express.co.uk was told. It comes after Ms Sturgeon’s former political ally, Alex Salmond, made his long-awaited appearance at a Scottish Parliamentary inquiry last week. He said there was "no doubt" that Scotland's leader had broken the ministerial code, repeatedly contradicting the series of events Ms Sturgeon had told MSPs.

The Scottish National Party's (SNP) dominance north of the border will come to an end if First Minister Sturgeon pulls the country out of the UK, Express.co.uk was told. It comes as Ms Sturgeon looks almost certain to win a majority in Hoylrood's May elections, which will provide her with the mandate to push ahead with plans her for a second independence referendum. The majority of polls currently show that more than half of the population would vote to leave the Union if a referendum were held tomorrow.

Alex Salmond agrees to appear at Holyrood inquiry next week as Sturgeon war reaches climax

Alex Salmond has finally agreed to appear before a Holyrood inquiry next week to level a series of allegations that his allies believe could force Nicola Sturgeon's resignation. Sources said the former First Minister had formally accepted an invitation to give evidence next Wednesday to a Scottish Parliament committee investigating the SNP government's botched investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against him. His appearance had appeared to be in jeopardy during weeks of wrangling over a written submission he made to the inquiry, amid concerns it may contain information that could lead to the identification of one of his accusers. Mr Salmond said he would not give evidence under oath unless the submission was published, but the impasse was broken on Thursday evening when the parliament's corporate body agreed a revised version will be disclosed early next week. He has used the document to detail the multiple ways in which he believes Ms Sturgeon broke the ministerial code during the scandal, alleged breaches that would usually be a resignation issue. Among the questions she faces is whether she lied to parliament about when she became aware of the allegations facing Mr Salmond, her former mentor and predecessor as First Minister. He believes that he was the victim of a politically motivated conspiracy aimed at preventing him from making a political comeback, a suggestion that Ms Sturgeon has dismissed as ridiculous.

Scotland's May elections are around the corner, with Ms Sturgeon hoping her Scottish National Party (SNP) secures a majority. It would give her the mandate to demand a second independence referendum from Westminster, and so once and for all complete the SNP's political mission. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, however, has repeatedly refused to entertain the idea of an Indyref2.
