COVID-19: Mumbai facing shortage as oxygen being diverted to Thane, Navi Mumbai, claims BMC

Representative image
Mumbai: Amid a shortage of medical oxygen in the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday claimed that its quota of the life-saving gas is being diverted to the neighbouring regions of
Thane and
Navi Mumbai.
BMC Additional Commissioner P Velrasu wrote a letter to Konkan divisional commissioner Annasaheb Misal last week and stated that the diversion of liquid medical oxygen (LMO) from Mumbai is leading to multiple distress calls of its "short supply" in some hospitals. On some occasions, patients even had to be shifted to other medical facilities.
According to his letter, the
Maharashtra government has fixed a quota of liquid medical oxygen for Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and other areas in MMR, keeping in mind the huge spike in its demand.
