Fewer than 100 people evacuated in Khartoum operation involving US special forces and aircraft
President Joe Biden said late Saturday that U.S. military evacuation of U.S. embassy personnel in Sudan has been completed and called for end to the “unconscionable” violence. Biden thanked U.S. troops who carried out the mission to extract American staffers in Sudan, as Washington shuttered the U.S. mission in Khartoum indefinitely. “I am proud of the extraordinary commitment of our Embassy staff, who performed their duties with courage and professionalism and embodied America’s friendship and connection with the people of Sudan,” Biden said in a statement.
Sudan’s de facto president and commander-in-chief of the army, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said he has agreed to facilitate the evacuation of foreign civilians and diplomats.
