Mahanoy Area rejects ‛private sales' of 18 properties for taxes | News

MAHANOY CITY — The Mahanoy Area school board rejected the sale of 18 “private sale” properties for taxes at a recent meeting. The properties — 17 in Mahanoy City and one in Mahanoy Township — were presented to the school district by the Schuylkill County Tax Claim Bureau for approval. Private sales are for taxes, but those properties are not sold free and clear of other liens and encumbrances, including mortgages and judgments. Bids must be submitted in writing and anyone owing taxes on a property in the county cannot submit such a bid. Nine different entities offered...
