Insecurity: Yoruba forum urges clampdown on secessionist agitators


Mr
Adeshina Animashaun, the National Coordinator of the group, said at a protest in Ado Ekiti that all right thinking members of the public should condemn such agitations.
He said the spate of violence in the Southwest and Southeast in recent times had led to loss of lives and property, hence the need to ensure that reckless utterances must be guarded.
Animashaun, while criticising
Igboho and his cohorts, said:
“Nigeria should not go the way of Somalia. Somalia is no longer the same today, because of war. I don’t want to even witness war throughout my lifetime, because we knew what we lost in Yorubaland during the 2020 #EndSARS protest.

Secession: Yoruba group seeks DSS, Police's clampdown on Igboho

A Yoruba organisation, Yoruba Appraisal Forum (YAF), has faulted the agitation by a group led by Mr Sunday Adeyemo, alias Sunday Igboho, that Yorubaland should secede from Nigeria, describing such move as treasonable and unpatriotic
The group also lampooned the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, for allegedly spearheading arson attacks and killings under the guise of secession in the Southeast.
YAF advised that Yoruba should resist the IPOB and their agents from brainwashing and infiltrating their ranks.
Speaking at a protest held in Ado Ekiti on Thursday to condemn the agitators, the group’s National Coordinator, Adeshina Animashaun, regretted the spate of violence in the southwest and southeast in recent times leading to loss of lives and property.

Ekiti 2022: Desist from premature campaigns - INEC warns APC, PDP, others


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Thursday, warned political parties, including the APC and PDP, to stay away from engaging in premature campaigns ahead of the 2022 governorship election or risk being sanctioned.
Dr Adeniran Tella, Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, gave the warning in Ado-Ekiti at a stakeholders’ meeting with political leaders, religious groups, youths and women.
The meeting was convened to address issues bothering on expanding voters’ access to polling units, as it affected the state.
“The commission is challenging you to play this game by the rules,” Tella said.
“The Electoral Act, 2010, Section 9991, as amended, frowns at organising election campaigns ahead of the stipulated time.

The group also tackled the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, for allegedly spearheading arson attacks and killings under the guise of secession in the South-East, advising that Yoruba should resist the IPOB from brainwashing and infiltrating their ranks.
The rally, comprising members of a commercial motorcycle association, different youth groups and driver unions, moved from the Fajuyi Park and danced around Ado Ekiti, the capital city.

A Clergy has called for President Muhammadu Buhari’s resignation over failure to secure the life and properties of the citizens.

The clergy, a US-based Nigerian Bishop, Emmanuel Ojo-Powerson asked President Buhari to hand over power to a competent person alleging that the president was no longer in control of the country.
The Supreme Archbishop of the Global Congress of Bishops and Apostles, GCBA, asserted that Nigeria cannot be hidden under prayer without action being taken.
Bishop Ojo-Powerson said the insecurity in the country has outgrown the control of the President.
