First Start for Clarke Wednesday, 12th Apr 2006 09:48 On-loan striker Billy Clarke made his first start for Colchester as the U's beat Hartlepool 2-0 on Tuesday evening. The Irish youngster played the full 90 minutes and set up the second goal for one-time Town target Neil Danns. Clarke has previously made three substitute appearances for the Layer Road side he joined towards the end of last month. The Blues are likely to extend his spell until the end of the season with Dean Bowditch returned from his loan at Wycombe, Danny Haynes in a goalscoring run and Nicky Forster close to a first team return after injury.
Joe Impressed With Clarke Wednesday, 12th Apr 2006 16:17 Boss Joe Royle says he was impressed with striker Billy Clarke when he caught him in action for loan club Colchester last night. Clarke, making his first start for the U's, set up the second goal for Neil Danns in a 2-0 victory over Hartlepool. Royle said: "Colchester manager Phil Parkinson promised Billy would get games when he asked about taking him on loan and he is clearly benefiting from the experience. "Billy had a shot after about 30 seconds that whizzed narrowly over the bar and he had a couple more that were close later on, plus he worked hard and made some good passes in behind the Hartlepool defence.
McCarthy: We Can't Afford to Drop Any Further Behind Tuesday, 8th Apr 2014 06:00 Boss Mick McCarthy believes the Blues can’t afford to drop any further behind the play-off places as they go into tonight’s crucial away game at Huddersfield. Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Blackburn saw Town slip to ninth, five points from Reading in the final play-off place. “We can’t,” he admitted. “And I think we’re six points behind really, I know it says five but the goal difference makes it six, without a doubt, I don’t think we’re going to make that up.
