Duchess of Cambridge wants photography tips from competition finalist

The Duchess of Cambridge asked one of the finalists from her Hold Still project for photography tips after praising her fantastically composed entry.
Catherine, 39, hosted a photography project last year in which people entered snaps that encapsulated their 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and in a new video posted to the YouTube channel she shares with her husband, the Duke of Cambridge, she asked finalist Niaz Maleknia for some key tips on snapping the perfect image.
The royal – who is a budding photographer herself – was discussing the photograph Niaz took, which saw her daughter Romy standing on Primrose Hill in North London, holding a history A-level paper on the day she was supposed to be sitting her exam.

Kate Middleton shares phone calls she held with participants from Hold Still project

The Duchess of Cambridge has updated her new YouTube channel with a video of her phone calls to participants in her photography contest, Hold Still, and told a student she feels like she knows her so well just from looking at her photo. #
Entitled Cancelled , the video features audio phone calls recorded in Autumn 2020 between Kate Middleton, 39, and finalists from the National Portrait Gallery s Hold Still photography exhibition.
The royal, who is a keen amateur photographer, launched the Hold Still initiative during lockdown and asked the public to submit their images which captured the period for a digital exhibition.
She was then joined by a panel of five judges to select the best photos from more than 31,000 submitted for the nation-wide contest and said she was overwhelmed by the response and that it was so hard to whittle the images down to a top 100.

Kate Middleton admits she can’t keep kids still for photos as she launches Hold Still
By Robert Jobson Special Royal Correspondent
The Duchess of Cambridge is an avid amateur photographer whose pictures of her family have appeared all around the world.
However, even she has revealed the problems faced by any family snapper - keeping the children under control.
During a visit to the National Portrait Gallery she was shown one of the earliest family photographs in the gallery’s collection, one showing the inventor Sir Charles Wheatstone and his family from 1851.
After seeing the daguerreotype the Duchess exclaimed: “I just don’t know how they kept the children still!”

Kate praises the 'power' of lockdown photography

The Duchess of Cambridge has hailed the “power of photography” as she launched the book of her landmark project to capture images of life under lockdown.
Kate said the 100 photographs taken by the public and featured in Hold Still: A Portrait Of Our Nation In 2020, left her feeling she had “lived through the experience” of the people in the pictures.
In a touching gesture she played fairy godmother to readers in the capital and left a copy of her book in Kensington Palace gardens to be found – one of 150 “hidden” by Hold Still judges and photographers across the country.
The duchess launched her Hold Still project in May last year with the National Portrait Gallery to encourage the public to pick up a camera or smartphone and capture the “spirit of the nation” during the pandemic.
