Young people today just don’t know what life was like back in the olden days, which for them would be the 90s. “You mean there was a world before the internet, before cell phones, before . . . goodness gracious, before Tik Tok?”
This really isn’t news to students at Smackover, especially those who play softball. At 73-years-old, Coach Dennis Steele didn’t actually play baseball with Babe Ruth but if he told his players he did, they’d probably assume it was the truth.
Steele is in the middle of his 54th season of coaching. He came to Norphlet from Illinois in 2005 and was there when the two schools merged. At Smackover, he’s the only high school softball coach the players know.
