Butte News - Health Department announces three additional fatalities related to COVID-19, no vaccination clinic this week

Health Officer Karen Sullivan said Monday that the fatalities all occurred in February 2021. The fatalities were confirmed through a routine reconciliation with state COVID-19 fatality data, and a Health Department review of death records. All three were residents of the Crest Nursing Home in Butte.

“Butte-Silver Bow sustained more fatalities per capita than the other populous counties in Montana,” Sullivan said. “The virus has had a tragic outcome for our county.”

In addition to the updated fatality count, the Health Department released other COVID-19 data in its weekly report. As of Sunday, April 18, the department was reporting 4,050 positive cases in the county since Butte-Silver Bow was informed of its first COVID-19 case March 13, 2020. Of those, 3,943 have recovered, and 22 cases remain active.

Caution advised as Butte celebrates an end to 2020 on New Year's Eve

Homes, rather than bars, will be ringing in 2021 with party hats, balloons and noisemakers.
Butte-Silver Bow Undersheriff George Skuletich doesn’t foresee Dec. 31 being too busy for his department, but it’s best to be prepared.
So, to err on the side of caution, rather than the usual five or six officers working the graveyard shift on a Thursday night, 10 to 12 officers will be out cruising the streets. They will be making sure the bars are closed long before midnight and that residents are being safe and sensible drivers.
Particularly this year, Skuletich thinks there will be an increase in the number of house parties, which, according to health department guidelines, isn’t recommended.
