sharing it, sharing it with the world. but more so sharing the story of this phenomenal, phenomenal american, more than anything else. he changed and altered this country in such a substantive way. because of who he was and because he was unapologetically who he was, he was pushed more into the background. i hope everybody will watch and see how important it is to honor those who have come before. >> you are certainly a handsome enough face to promote it. we appreciate you being here this morning. the new film "rustin" is in select theaters november 3rd and on netflix november 17th. director george c. wolfe, thank you for being here and congratulations on the film. here is a live look outside the atlanta courthouse where donald trump's former chief of staff mark meadows is expected to arrive soon. a hearing will begin in just a few minutes as part of his push

there is some kind of splintering from the rest of the defendants, and that could depend on perhaps, strategy. explain that to us. >> i think part of it is that when the first request was made, by cheseboro, he thought that he would catch fani willis not ready. and that he would have an advantage, and that the trial would start within the legally mandated time of the georgia statute. which means that under georgia statute, the trial had to start by november 3rd. once he saw that he was wrong and she said, fine, let's go, i'm ready, others may have thought, well, i'll get in on this. i'll be severed from donald trump's trial by joining this early trial date. because donald trump is going to delay, delay, delay, divert, that is his pattern and practice. and so i'll be tried separately, and that gives me a break.

you with us. jill, i'll start with you because of the legal aspect that we are talking about, and our colleague lisa really pointed this out clearly earlier today. she said that this news, that john eastman will likely join sydney powell and ken cheseboro in demanding a speedy trial in fulton county, signals that there is some kind of splintering from the rest of the defendants, and that could depend on perhaps, strategy. explain that to us. >> i think part of it is that when the first request was made by kenneth chesebro, he thought that he would catch fani willis not ready. and that he would have an advantage, and that the trial would start within the legally mandated time of the georgia statute. which means that under georgia statute, the trial had to start by november 3rd. once he saw that he was wrong and she said, fine, let's go, i'm ready, others may have thought, well, i'll get in on this.

trial ultimately impact trump and the other co-defendants? >> yes, i do believe these cases will be tried since they were indicted together. there's no reason to sever them in separate trials. court efficiency is very important. georgia law requires that the trial start -- the jury selection, it should be joined. both parties sign on to the indictment before the end of the term. this term will end on november 3rd. again, court efficiently will demand both these cases start and i'm sure the judge will keep both of these cases together. >> as we look at all the co-defendants up there, why is it that some would want a speedy trial and others have remained mum? >> a speedy trial would be filed for the defense for two reasons. first, as sort of a bluff. is the prosecutor really ready to try this case? they can withdraw their speedy trial demand up to the time the trial starts. the other is finances.

november 3rd, which is why the october 23rd day was selected. october 30th is the last full week in october. so the judge wanted to put just a bit of wiggle room in the schedule to make sure everything started on time. >> but what is the tactic? if you're a defensive tierney, you've got a high stakes case. it's serious. a client is looking at serious time. they're not remanded. they're not in custody, which is one reason you might want a speedy trial. you want to get your person out. why would you want to do a trial in two months? >> because everybody is starting to turn on these defendants. sean still, he filed impish petition trying to get federal court to hear's case. he said listen, i was just acting on advice of counsel. you heard mr. trump in a press conference either personally or through his attorneys a few

court or you are acquitted. so this means that this trial has to start for these two defendants who have requested a speedy trial, cheeseborough and powell, before november 3rd of this here. and so a date has been set for cheeseborough, october 23rd, and sidney powell may be folded into that. but if it actually doesn't happen by that date, and doesn't happen by november, then that means they are acquitted. if you are defended, why not to play those odds? this is a multi defendant trial, it is going to be very cumbersome, very messy, and if it doesn't start on time, you might get off scot-free. if you are donald trump you really have to worry though about peeling off from some of these defendants because there are defendants and advantages doing that. so he is going to run everything down to the rewire in terms of time, and that is probably why we haven't seen him file a motion for a speedy trial yet. but, with many of the defendants trying to remove their cases to federal court, the difficulty for willis is
