Peaceful outcome on this front appears weak, not even remotely foreseeable. The reason is that republican members of congress are not responding to the National Election of last fall but to the election of their own districts. A Strong Majority of the districts voted against barack obama in november even as the overall population voted for him. This i believe is the cruel arithmetic that divides american politics. While the big cities have given the majority of the mandate the district by district vote in the suburbs and rural areas given the republicans their mandate to vote against obama and the Health Care Act that will join him in the history books.
