The president s pardon power is broad, he can essentially do what he would like here, but doesnt mean wouldnt give pardons we would view as abusive. Part of that is pardons given to politicians convicted of corruption. Seen that with the former illinois governor whose sentence President Trump commuted, causing him to be released from prison.
