And at the same time, a huge deal. before we finish here, ayman, the details are crucial but also the optics. the meeting started on time, a victory for the biden team, getting putin there on time. the other point, though, the russian media is pointing out that u.s. media got tough questions to president putin at his news conference where president biden s news conference, there were no questions from russian media and here, that s been framed to kind of suggest that president putin is prepared to talk and is open to questions and president biden isn t. optically, you could argue the biden administration missed an opportunity there to seem open and try to take the tupt to talk to the russian people in a different kind of way. that may be something they want to re-evaluate or think about. frankly, it seems pretty ....

The impeachment vote tomorrow morning, i urge each of you to join me on the floor. our constituents look to us to be respectful of the constitution and be defenders of our democracy and to proceed in a manner worthy of our oath of office to support and defend the constitution of the united states. the split screen between these letters couldn t be more stark. optically, she wants this morning at 9:00 a.m. this show of solidarity. and she has i think throughout this process tried to convey this is a solemn day. she s trying not to revel in it. you don t see her smiling about it. obviously the president continues to berate her and to make this into a partisan issue. but i think that she feels the sense as the house speaker to convey the gravity and the momentous occasion. this has only happened three times. this is a big deal for her. she wasn t always for impeachment. i think she wants that show of force today on the floor. all right, john avalon. make the case that this letter that ....

Gives a nod to the mural report as well and what was outlined therein. what do we learn from this, how this is going to be sold, how the truth is going to be sold or communicated to the american people? the democrats have tried to follow the facts to this point. they ve also tried to be very transparent about that to present that as such to the american people, because they re aware the president carping about the process, portraying all of this as a partisan sham and so they are trying to counter that, you know, optically. the problem is that the president has been successful in keeping his base right where it is. the numbers haven t really moved much on impeachment and democrats know they are trying to be transparent and open about the process, about the evidence, really wanting to put the evidence forward here, so that the country understands why they re doing this and that it s not about partisan politics. but the democrats have also conscious of the clock and not wanting to let ....

If you think about president trump s career before he was president, a lot of the ways he defended himself in various legal disputes was to tie up opponents in courts with superior legal firepower. that has worked, and that did work for republicans during the mueller investigation to an extent. here, though, now that you ve had people like ambassador sondland and taylor and colonel vindman go out there and make a clean breast of what they know it s been harder for ambassador bolden to say they don t want to talk if they re emboldened but it makes their case tougher optically and you have a situation where the main facts of this case, unlike in the mueller situation are already out. so stalling it, if you are the republicans, just stalls sort of the inevitable. i do agree with abby that for democrats, they want to get thus done by the end of the year from a public relations point of view. and there are dangers as well for a president running for re-election to have impeachment ....

Confirming evidence of obstruction that was contained in the mueller report, why is that getting lost in this? what we re seeing is a congressional hearing in the age of the viral video and what people are latching on is the circus of and it was a circus. it was a circus yesterday and bad sort of optically for the democrats. let s break down what happened. he said that the president of the united states directed him to tell jeff sessions to kurt ail the investigation. that met and that was in the mueller report, all three elements of the crime of obstruction of justice. you had an attempt to obstruct. you had corrupt intent and official proceeding. so we can disagree as to whether you ought to charge the president. disagree as to whether you ought to impeach the president but it s clear and, look, i signed a letter with a thousand other federal prosecutors former federal prosecutors saying this was a crime. this is a chargeable criminal offense. and so if congress wishes to ....
