located.
A pair of chemists are combining their love of science and spirits to bring Clear Lake a brand new distillery in 2022.
Co-owner Doug Summerfield and his aunt Lori Summerfield and uncle John Summerfield along with friend Gary Schmit are excited to finally begin bringing their dream distillery, 173° Craft Distillery, to life.
Doug Summerfield, a doctor who moved to the Clear Lake area back in 2011, came up with the idea of 173° Craft Distillery at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to bring fun and excitement to the Clear Lake community.

Kim Reynolds suggests unvaccinated immigrants are helping spread COVID

"This has nothing to do with immigrants," he said.
Instead, Henry said, Reynolds hasn't done enough to make sure Iowans are vaccinated.
"For her to cry wolf about this doesn’t seem to make sense in light of the fact that she hasn’t done the work here in Iowa to make sure that everybody gets vaccinated," he said.
About 49% of Iowa's 3.2 million residents are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adults, 61% are fully vaccinated and 65% have received at least one shot. Those figures have barely budged in recent weeks, as demand for the shots has plummeted.
Reynolds said in April she hoped 75% of Iowa adults would be vaccinated by the end of June. Although Iowa fell short of that goal, the governor touted the state's vaccination numbers Tuesday, saying she was encouraged while also acknowledging the vaccination rate has slowed. COVID-19 infections are increasing nationwide because of the spread of the highly contagious delta variant of the virus. In Iowa, hospitalizations and case numbers have begun curving back up after relatively low case counts in June.

Iowa governor suggests immigrants partially to blame for rising COVID-19 cases

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) on Tuesday placed partial blame for the recent surge in COVID-19 cases on immigrants crossing into the U.S. from its southern border.
"Part of the problem is the southern border is open and we’ve got 88 countries that are coming across the border and they don’t have vaccines so none of them are vaccinated and they’re getting dispersed throughout the country," Reynolds said to reporters, according to the Des Moines Register.
The Register notes that Reynolds has been a vocal critic of President Biden

Health experts have largely attributed to the recent surge in cases to the more infectious delta variant, which has now become the dominant strain in the U.S. The surge has also been dubbed the "outbreak of the unvaccinated" as people who are not immunized against COVID-19 have been disproportionately affected by this recent surge.

Lawmakers push redistricting hearing participation

New Yorkers should provide input in upcoming preliminary hearings, lawmakers said, as commissioners begin to draft the state’s new elective district maps after a round of listening sessions that will continue Thursday.
Commissioners held the first of eight virtual hearings in Nassau and Suffolk counties Tuesday for more than two hours seeking public comments on what areas or communities should be grouped together within state Senate, Assembly or congressional districts. “I thought it went great,” Redistricting Commission co-executive director Doug Breakell said of the first session, which featured about 30 participants. “We want as much participation as possible in the short time we were able to offer the virtual listening tours. We want participation — we always want more.”
