Dr. Paul D. Parkman, whose research helped identify the virus that causes rubella, died May 7 in Auburn, New York. He was 91.
He also identified the virus, which can cause infants to be born with severe physical and mental impairments as well as causing miscarriages and stillbirths.
He trained as a pediatrician but was drawn into virology while serving in the Army Medical Corps in the early 1960s.
