The federal recommendation follows reports of six women, from 18 to 48 years old, who developed a rare blood-clotting disorder after receiving the single-dose vaccine. One woman died and a second is hospitalized in critical condition. ....

RI Dept. of Health pauses Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine

Rhode Island is pausing administration of the Johnson &  Johnson vaccine Tuesday after federal authorities recommended a pause, the Rhode Island Department of Health announced Tuesday morning.
No Johnson & Johnson appointments had been scheduled for release today,  the Health Department said in a statement. RIDOH is directing vaccinators that had made Johnson & Johnson vaccination appointments to not administer those doses.
Rhode Island has administered 31,500 doses of Johnson & Johnson, Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott said during a press briefing Tuesday afternoon.
We have not had any of these adverse events reported, she said.
Federal officials recommended the pause as they review data involving six reported U.S. cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in people who received the J&J vaccine, USA Today reports. All six cases occurred among women between the ages of 18 and 48, and symptoms occurred six to 13 days after vaccination. ....
