Gold Coast mum reveals she broke foot when she leaped into a canal to chase alleged boat thief

A heroic mother who jumped into a canal to pursue a man who allegedly stole her son's boat has told how she kept chasing him down despite breaking her foot in the process.
Penelope Howard swam after the man after he allegedly used a hacksaw to cut the tinnie's padlock before taking the boat out into Mermaid Waters on the Gold Coast.
The bumbling alleged thief, 39, was later arrested at a nearby address after failing to start the tinnie's engine - with bizarre footage showing him rowing away awkwardly as the fully-clothed mum waded after him.
Ms Howard said she then broke her foot after scrambling up a rock wall in an attempt to catch the man.

A GOLD Coast mum has been captured on video leaping into a canal to chase down an alleged thief trying to awkwardly row away in her son's tinny.
Queensland Police have confirmed a 39-year-old Ormeau man now faces a string of charges.
Penelope Howard took to Facebook to share video footage of the amusing incident, which occurred about 3pm on Friday off Salamander Court at Mermaid Waters.

The incredible moment a mother jumped into a canal to chase down a man who allegedly stole her son's boat has been captured on video.
Penelope Howard spotted the man in her son's boat at Mermaid Waters, on the Gold Coast at about 3pm on Friday.
