The Fairfield City Council The Fairfield City Council met for their regular meeting last night with all members present. Although there were only 3 agenda items to be addressed, discussion on some of the items was lengthy. The council reviewed a proposed ordinance regarding the placement of storage containers on residential property. This issue was briefly discussed at the last meeting with City Attorney Darren Rice instructed to draft a proposed ordinance. Some of the stipulations that are being proposed in the ordinance are: Can't exceed 30% of the property or 320 sq. ft., whichever is less; Must be painted a monochrome color with no visible lettering or signage; Placed to minimize visibility from the street; May only be placed in areas zoned R1, R2, or R3; May be altered but must retain structural integrity; Must be 7' from a structure - Applies to storage containers only. The Jefferson Fire Protection District announced a burn ban in effect from 10 a.m. Friday thru Tuesday, October 11. In accordance with the ordinance, the ban prohibits open burning within the fire district boundaries and includes the villages of Belle Rive, Bonnie, Dix, Ina, and all other areas within the boundaries of the fire district. Fire Chief Conan King says the district will continue to monitor weather conditions and may extend the burn ban as it feels necessary. The four Illinois Eastern Community Colleges are urging high school seniors to apply now for the next round of Student Success Scholarships, before the October 28th Priority Deadline, to ensure they are first in line for scholarship dollars. Initiated in 2020, the tuition awards are available to students within the IECC District who have committed to attend either of the four colleges by completing the admissions application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid by the Priority Deadline date. The Fairfield City Council will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, October 11 at 6:00pm at city hall, with a public hearing to take place prior to the meeting at 5:50pm. The public hearing is in regard to rezoning property at 1010 West Court & 110 NW 11th streets and bid opening for sale of city owned property. In routine business the council will discuss an ordinance for the sale of city owned property, for the auxiliary police building, and ordinance to rezone property from an R-2 to a B-3 Zone, ordinance for a TIF Agreement with B-Way Design & Decorating LLC, and an ordinance on risk management insurance.
