toward securing a conviction for the individual. our detectives, agents, deputies, everybody standing before you, will work this tirelessly for as long as it needs to go, and it s done by a person, again, who does not live in our community who brought this kind of hate to our very close knit buffalo community. we will not tolerate this. we will stand tall against it and rebound against it and show how strong we are and all the members of our police department, the fbi, the state police will continue to fight hate on a daily basis. police say not only was the suspected gunman heavily arm but also wore tactical gear as he live streamed the shooting before surrendering. one witness described what he saw. it took the police about two minutes. a minute and thirty-seconds, actually. that was pretty much it. it took them about two minutes. they got here and they stood and watched him. i thought they were going to shoot him, but they didn t shoot him, but yeah. like i said, he go
motivated violent extremism. we ll bring all the resources of the federal government to bear on this case. this is the number one priority of the department of justice, and i can assure the citizens of this community that anything we can do at the federal level with this case will be done and justice will be served for the victims. on the hate crime issue as well. i asked our hate crime task force to investigate as well. it s absolutely a hate crime. i have been in touch with officials in washington and the white house on the issue of what we are doing here so aggressively as well. i appreciate the fbi investigation as well. reporter: that s the governor of the state of new york, kathy hochul along with the local district attorney from erie county talking about the horrible news out of buffalo. an 18-year-old suspect drove from the binghampton area from the pennsylvania-new york border. drove several hours west and north to the buffalo area and began livestreaming as he got
before headed to the steps of the supreme court. the supreme court s initial ruling could be released in weeks. a new reality awaits if the opinion doesn t change. there are 13 states with trigger states that would indicate near total ban on abortion. and 23 states have laws that would create major limits. shimon prokupecz is in washington and polo sandoval is new york for us right now. shimon, what are the activists telling you? what are you hearing so far? reporter: most of them out here just saying that they want to keep fighting despite this leaked draft opinion. they re not giving up hope. they think that things can change and they can perhaps prevent the supreme court from issuing a final ruling that would obviously overturn roe. that is certainly on the top of minds of many of the people here. concern being that this ruling, should it stand, should this draft become the actual decision of the court, it would affect underserved communities, poor communities mostly and
yeah, it could be very well awful. you know, listen, right now, they have a suspect in custody. that s a good news, but right now it s important they reach out to family, individuals that may have been injured during the course of that incident unfolding. that s what they re doing now. of course you have a crime scene they have to protect. they ve got to try to find out as much information from this individual as possible. probably trying to secure search wa warrants. so there are a lot of things going on right now, but one of the main things is actually notifying family members. and here s an eyewitness who just spoke to hour affiliate there, wkbw. from what i saw, just left the store and i stopped here and i started to drink my juice and i heard a gun shot that i knew was a gun shot and not a fire cracker. i looked up and i seen smoke. i seen a guy in a full army shoot just shooting shots at people. i seen a security guard run in the store and then i seen the guy go i
