JOHANNESBURG - The High Court in Pretoria has on Monday found that the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) was not irrational in its preliminary findings against axed Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku.
It also said the former MEC was neglectful, lacked professionalism and care in discharging his duties.
Masuku’s bid to set aside the SIU’s report into the Gauteng health COVID-19 tender irregularities has been dismissed with cost to both counsel.

City Health: Use of gloves, PPEs by vaccinators is impractical

THE use of gloves and personal protective equipment (PPEs) by vaccinators during the Covid-19 vaccination procedure is impractical and costly, Acting City Health Officer Dr. Lorraine Nery said on Tuesday, March 9.
This, after several people who witnessed the vaccination procedure through photos and videos expressed concern after seeing the vaccinators giving the first dose of the Sinovac vaccines to the healthcare workers without using PPEs or gloves.
According to Nery, there was no advice from the Department of Health (DOH) that wearing of gloves or PPEs during the vaccination process is necessary.
"Kung mag gloves ka, every person nga i-vaccinate nimo, mag change ka og gloves. So it's not so practical kay dili man pwede nga naka gloves lagi ka pero ang imong gi-vaccinate mao ra man gihapon," Nery said.

This is according to the Gauteng health department, which on Friday confirmed the fire had not disrupted hospital services. There were no casualties.
The hospital was being used for temporary storage of health equipment and linen meant for the Anglo-Ashanti Hospital during its construction phase, as the facilities are relatively close to one another.

Get Vaccinated To Defeat The Pandemic – It Is Absolutely Safe: Trust Me, I’m 94

If more people are vaccinated, we can stop the pandemic in its tracks — the reason why the government is ratcheting up vaccination centres.
Being 94 years of age, I received my second dose of vaccine against Covid-19. I am aware that I can’t say ‘mission accomplished’ because there is still a surge of cases in Maharashtra and Kerala.
I am also aware that the mantras of ‘social distancing, masks, and constant hand washing’ have to be continued till things settle down.

JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) on Saturday said some deaths of its members can be squarely attributed to substandard personal protective equipment (PPEs).
The union was reacting to the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) report into COVID-19 PPE procurement.
The SIU found processes were flouted in the awarding of tenders.
The SIU investigation focused on tenders awarded between April and November following numerous complaints.
